The IEEE Computer Society defines “software engineering” as the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of software, and the study of these approaches.
This is where Office Engineering's Telemetry Team comes in. As part of our team you will have the unique opportunity to impact a crucial piece of the software engineering process across one of the largest and most complex software projects ever undertaken. Our focus is on how to make our approach to software development systematic, disciplined and above all quantifiable.
Our mission is to define the all up telemetry vision and provide the data pipelines, reports, tools, processes/methodologies and data-visualization required to bring that vision to reality. We own the end to end problem-set from both the reliability (Watson, ULS, SQM, Browser SQM, Services Availability/Latency, etc...) and feedback (Send a Smile, data mining of social networks/blogs/news articles, MSAnswers, FixItCenter, etc...) fronts and aim to provide one oracle of vital product data for all Office teams. Ultimately, if a customer tells us we have a problem that we didn't already know about, we fail.
We are looking for a passionate, motivated and data-driven Senior SDET to work as a technical leader alongside our Dev & PM counterparts in defining the telemetry vision across the 40+ Office teams (encompassing client applications, enterprise and cloud services). You will work across groups and disciplines in a highly visible position for a large investment area not only in Office but across Microsoft and the software industry. The Office Engineering team has a strong culture around creating challenging yet rewarding opportunities with members having won multiple EE Awards and Honorable Mentions over the past 5 years.
The ideal candidate will be: Passionate about software development & testing and driven in advancing testing as an engineering discipline. Highly focused on customer empathy. Excellent at design, coding, testing, problem solving and debugging. Excellent at communication and collaboration. Comfortable and efficient working across multiple groups and teams. Experienced in testing, shipping, operating and/or maintaining an online service.
Qualifications: BA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field (or 5+ years of related industry experience). 5+ years of experience in software testing with a demonstrable understanding of software testing concepts, project management and communication skills. Experience developing, debugging and maintaining code in C++ or C#. Demonstrable organizational, problem solving and prioritization skills. SQL, reporting and data-visualization experience is a plus.
If you would like to know more or if this sounds like the next step in your Microsoft career we want to hear from you!
